Honor others and God will honor you.

"Love one another with brotherly affection, outdo one another in showing honor." (Romans 12:10)

This biblical principle is powerful: love your neighbor. More than words, loving your neighbor requires action. Serving others takes humility and understanding of the Word. Jesus—who is King—came into the world and served everyone. Who are we to seek honor?

When we focus on receiving honor, we contaminate our service. Help your neighbor gladly, don’t expect anything in return, and God will surprise you. Whether we’re serving our brothers, obeying our parents, or doing tasks at work, we must do it as if for God. Only God can repay honor with justice and grace.

When we take this position, we open the doors for God’s movement in our lives. We love and receive love from above. This true love motivates us to love and serve more and more. Even when we aren’t recognized or even when we’re humiliated, God will exalt us at the right time. Believe it, for all glory and honor come from Him, and are for Him.

Exercising Honor

  • Do not act based on personal interests. Without realizing it, we may distance the people we love because of our own goals.

  • Place God and His Kingdom as your primary goal. This way, everyone will be included in your plans.

  • Look at the example of Jesus. Read in the Gospels how He served and how He loved everyone.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for your care over my life. I want to honor your name and serve my neighbor with joy and truth. Create in me a heart willing to help. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
